| Pedal Car Safety
- Children must only use pedal cars under adult supervision.
- When vehicles are present, be aware of kids playing nearby, as they are harder to see in a pedal car that is so close to the ground.
- Do not allow children to drive on the street and be vigilant when they are playing on the sidewalk as a neighbor may be unaware of their presence when backing out a car.
- Allow them only to play on flat, hard, surfaces. Slopy terrain is hazardous because pedal cars do not have proper brakes. Take extra precautions if there are nearby ponds or lakes.
- Children must be properly dressed to prevent injuries. A helmet is advised in case of tip-overs and shoes must be worn at all times to prevent foot injuries. In addition, no loose clothing such as scarves must be worn, as they can easily get caught in the driving mechanism.
- Children (or adults) mustn't push or pull a child in a pedal car as the driver's legs may get tangled in the pedal mechanism.
- Because kids get caught up in the excitement and do not realize they're tired or thirsty, adults should ensure that they get enough liquids and take regular breaks. Watch out for symptoms of exhaustion or hydration, especially in hot weather.
Pedal Car Recalls
If there are any current pedal car (or related toy) recalls by the CPSC (U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission), they will appear below (but be sure to always check out their website for the latest recall news).
